Equipment for measurement of wheel load, accelerating force and speed of vehicle wheel

The equipment is fitted to a conventional road wheel with a pneumatic tyre (1) on its rim (5) joined by uniformly spaced radial spokes (4) to the axle (3). One spoke carries a sensor (6) comprising two strain gauges at equal radial distances with measuring wires parallel to its axis. Measurements of the tensile and compressive stresses in the spoke are transmitted via slip-rings or inductively to an on-board computer or other signal processor. Load, rotational speed and accelerative force can be deduced from the amplitudes, frequencies and zero level respectively.
