The applicator comprises a preliminary doctor blade (10) which has distribution channels (17) coming out on the wiping edge (16). The distribution channels are connected to a positive displacement pump (9). The connection between the distribution channels and the pump runs via a supply channel and a connecting tube (14). The cross section of the distribution channels is constantly enlarged with decreasing clearance from the pump connection point.
