In the composting of comminuted organic waste materials, the composting material is transferred, in accordance with predetermined rotting parameters, into at least two containers (1) each provided with a lower discharge device (2) and an upper filling opening (6). In dependence on the rotting parameters, composting material is discharged from at least one of the containers (1) and delivered to at least one of the containers (1) again by means of a conveying device (7).
