Jet engine thrust reverse with a variable exhaust area nozzle

The thrust reversal system is mounted in the housing surrounding the engine which forms an annular channel (C) for a pulsed gas flow. It comprises hinged flaps (14) located in apertures in the engine housing between forward (9) and aft (10) fixed members and lengthwise side members. The system incorporates a ring (15) which can slide lengthwise to the rear of the thrust reversal flaps in guide rails fixed to the engine housing diametrically opposite one another. In its forward position the ring locks the flaps in their retracted position by means of a skirt (22) engaging with a cavity (26). When the ring is slid to the rear it allows the flaps to be deployed in the normal way.
