The motion estimation method by blocks uses a determination stage for a first movement vector field between a first image (1) and a second image (2). A 2nd determination stage is used for a second movement vector field between the second image and a third image (4). Each vector in the second field is chosen from a group of candidate vectors derived from the first vector field. The choice is made as a function of data contained in the second and third image. The choice criteria for a vector from the candidate vectors is the criteria of the smallest distortion. Determination of the first vector field is made from blocks of a first size and the determination of the second vector field is made from blocks of a second size equal to or less than the first size. |
