PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a optical element with a display layer of a polymer liquid crystal and having sufficient repeated durability, reproducibility of characteristics of a material to be used and improved productivity. SOLUTION: This optical element is formed by successively laminating at least three layers constituted of a supporting base, a display layer composed of the polymer liquid crystal composition and a surface protective layer, and the surface protective layer contains a polymer resin of an interpenetrating polymer network structure or is formed by laminating a plurality of layers and at least one layer of which comprises a polymer resin of an interpenetrating polymer network structure. The surface protective layer is formed by laminating a plurality of layers, and a surface protective layer on the topmost surface is composed of a thermoset resin, while other surface protective layers preferably contains a polymer resin of the interpenetrating polymer network structure. Also it is preferable that the polymer liquid crystal composition is composed of a polymer liquid crystal provided with liquid crystal monomer units and non-liquid crystal monomer units and/or crosslinked. |
