PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aromatic carbonate from a dialkyl carbonate and an aromatic hydroxy compound in high efficiency while suppressing the formation of an alkyl aromatic ether as a by-product. SOLUTION: An aromatic carbonate is produced by reacting a dialkyl carbonate with an aromatic hydroxy compound in the presence of a catalyst under the following conditions (1) to (4): (1) the catalyst has a specific catalytic activity; (2) the amount of the catalyst (c), the reaction time (r), the raw material ratio (d) in the reaction system and the reaction temperature (t) are selected within respective specific ranges, (3) these factors satisfy the formulas, g(r, t)<=2 and f(c, r, t, d)>=0.02 wherein g(r, t)=(r)×exp[36-17× 1000/(273+t)}] and f(c, r, t, d)=-(c)×(r)×exp[36-17× 1000/(273+t)}]×(d/(1+d)<2> ) and (4) and selectivity of alkyl aromatic ether is <1% based on the charged aromatic hydroxy compound. |
