PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously monitor the passage of paper sheets by registering the time in which a paper sheet passes through a plurality of sensors on a conveying passage, detecting a following paper sheet by a first sensor when the foregoing paper sheet detected by the first sensor is not detected by the second sensor although the paper sheet is conveyed by the constant amount, and judging that there is no obstacle in the conveyance of the paper sheet when the following paper sheet can be detected by the second sensor. SOLUTION: A bill passage checking unit 9 monitors the passage of bills between sensors Sn, Sn+1 by a sensor 8 after setting the time of the passage of the bills into a passage time registering area 10. When the bill is not detected by the Sn+1 sensor although the bill detected by the Sn sensor is conveyed by the constant amount, the following bill is detected by the Sn sensor, when a following bill is detected by the Sn+1 sensor, correction is performed so as to prevent the abnormal conveyance from being judged. |
