摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optically induction switch which is suitable to process a large capacity of information in an extremely short time. SOLUTION: This switch consists of a material having a second-order nonlinear optical effect into which signal light and controlling light are introduced. Switching is performed by directional control, phase modulation or rotation or polarized light of the signal light by the controlling light. As for the switching material having a second-order nonlinear optical effect, a crystal material having no center symmetry such asβ-BaB2 O4 , LiBO4 , LiIO3 , KTiOPO4 , KH2 PO4 , NbO3 , NaNbO3 , KNbO3 and BaTiO3 , or a crystallized glass containing precipitation of fine grains having no center symmetry ofβ-BaB2 O4 , LiBO4 , LiIO3 , KTiOPO4 , KH2 PO4 , NbO3 , NaNbO3 , KNbO3 and BaTiO3 can be used.
