Alignment checking system for railway power supply mast

It is important that the masts which support the current cables for electric trains are at the correct height and distance from the track. Each mast (5) has a protrusion (6) at right angles to the mast and to the rail (3). The height (H) of the protrusion above the rail and its horizontal distance (A) from the nearer rail are critical for the efficient operation of the power pick-up. The present test unit is moved from mast to mast to measure the two distances. It uses an electronic tape measure and a tape angle detector. The distance and the angle (alpha) are used in automatic trigonometric calculations to determine the height (H) and horizontal distance (A).
