PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct character communication readily without limit of using location by providing a memory storing a program by which connection to a prescribed data communication system is attained via a public telephone network. SOLUTION: A terminal equipment 100 like a portable telephone set is provided with a transmission respectively system 110 including an antenna 111, a character input key 146 and a display means 151 and connected to a public telephone network. In the telephone mode, speech is made by the digital system. In the data mode, each of a transmission line decode 126, a transmission control circuits 126, 127 and a transmission line encode 137 exchanges a prescribed signal with a microcomputer 140 to conduct synchronization, error control and transmission control or the like in cooperation with each other. An electronic mail handler for personal communication and a real time character service handler are mounted in a ROM 142 to hide complicated command processing of personal computer communication from the user and ease of data communication is attained. |
