CURABLE EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITION AND ITS USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a curable epoxy resin compsn. which can yield a coating possessing excellent flexibility, impact resistance and other properties and is useful as an aq. paint, a coating material and the like by incorporating an epoxy resin, a particular liq. amine-terminated polyamide curing agent, and water. SOLUTION: An epoxy resin (A) having at least 1.5 epoxy groups per molecule (e.g. a bisphenol A type epoxy resin), a liq. amine-terminated polyamide (B) prepd. by reacting at least one 18-50C dicarboxylic acid with an aminoalkylpiperazine [e.g. N-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine], and water (C) are incorporated to prepare a curable epoxy resin compsn. The component (A) to component (B) molar ratio is pref. in the range of from (3:1) to (1:3). Suitable dicarboxylic acids for a starting compd. for the preparation of the component (B) include an adduct of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or the like with linoleic acid, a tall oil fatty acid or the like.
