PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a player to constantly renew a splitting point at an optimum position according to the actual depressed states of keys in each of key areas into which a keyboard is split. SOLUTION: This musical instrument has a musical note generation characteristic control means 2 which split the keys of a keyboard 10 into plural key areas and which controls different musical note generation characteristics (tones, automatic functions, etc.) for the different key areas.
