摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a player to constantly renew a splitting point at an optimum position according to the actual depressed states of keys in each of key areas into which a keyboard is split. SOLUTION: This musical instrument has a musical note generation characteristic control means 2 which split the keys of a keyboard 10 into plural key areas and which controls different musical note generation characteristics (tones, automatic functions, etc.) for the different key areas. When the keyboard 10 is touched for every key area, the key chord KC of a characteristic key touch(lowest-or higehst-pitched tone, etc.) in terms of pitch is regarded as a noticed note, which is renewed and stored by a noticed note renewal and storage means 3. When the noticed note in either of the key areas is renewed, a key area splitting point renewal means 4, based on a noticed note NL stored in that key area and on a noticed note NU stored in the adjacent key area, and if an even number of keys exist between the notes NL, NU, sets a new key area splitting point SP at the center of the keys, and if an odd number of keys exist, renews the key area splitting point SP so that the key corresponding to the center belongs to the key area whose noticed note has been renewed.
