PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for original-document scanning which is carried out for detecting whether the image of an original document is monochrome or color, to speed up image formation and to reduce power consumption by setting a monochrome or color image formation mode in response to particular- color image signals obtained by reading the image of the original document. SOLUTION: A monochrome image/color image detection part 62 detects whether the image of the original document is a monochrome image or a color image by comparing C, Y, and M digital image signals from a color conversion/ color correction/UCR/UCA part 30 with a threshold, and judging whether all the C, Y and M digital image signals are smaller than the threshold, and it outputs the detection result to a control part 63. When a control part 63 decides that the image of the original document is a color image, it set the multicolor image formation mode for forming a color image. On the other hand, when the control part 63 decides that the image of the original document is monochrome image, it sets a monochrome image formation mode for forming a monochrome image. |
