PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the packet transmitter in which a packet is transmitted efficiently by deciding a length of the packet based on line quality information generated through the monitoring of the line quality state of a transmission line tying packet transmitters opposite to each other so as to set an optimum packet length depending on the quality of the transmission line. SOLUTION: Packet terminals PT1, PT2 are connected to a transmission line via line control sections 13, 23 and line monitor sections 17, 27 always monitor the state of the line quality in the line control sections 13, 23 and collect the information relating to the line quality at a prescribed time interval and give the information to packet length decision sections 16, 26. The packet length decision sections 16, 26 decide a maximum packet length at which no transmission code error is caused based on the line quality information and inform it to packet assembly sections 15, 25. Thus, the packet transmitter with high quality communication is obtained under a wide environment depending whether or not physical means of a network being a transmission line is an optical cable or a metal cable or the like and having provision for fluctuation in the line quality state. |
