<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high grade images having a high contrast with higher quality of a black display by providing the outer side of a pixel display area with a light shielding part consisting of an opaque material. SOLUTION: A light shielding layer 24 as the light shielding part consisting of an opaque chromium film is formed on the outer side of the pixel display area in such a manner as to exist on the lower layer across a gate insulating film 23 composed of a silicon nitride layer 21 which is formed by plasma CVD and has, for example, 150nm film thickness and a tantalum oxide layer 22 which is formed by sputtering and has 100nm film thickness. This chromium film is formed by sputtering and the film thickness thereof is, for example, 150nm. The film does not allow the passage of light. The light shielding layer 24 is electrically connected to the common electrode of a counter substrate via a conductive paste. The area proximity to the pixel display is, therefore, shielded by the fixed potential, by which the rush of static electricity is prevented. Then, the yield of the liquid crystal display device is improved and the cost is reduced. In addition, its display performance is improved.</p> |
