NEGATIVE ELECTRODE PLATE FOR LEAD-ACID BATTERY, AND LEAD-ACID BATTERY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the negative electrode plate of a lead-acid battery to extend its life in use under high temperature environments. SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material paste containing 0.2wt.% of leas salt or barium salt of lignosulfonic acid is filled in a grid (current collector) formed of a Pb-Ca alloy, and aged and dried to form an unformed negative electrode plate. This unformed negative electrode plate is formed in dilute sulfuric acid having a specific gravity of 1.050 to form a negative electrode plate, which is then combined with a general positive electrode plate to assemble a lead-acid battery of 1.2 Ah-2V. The lead salt or barium salt stays in the negative electrode active material without eluting to an electrolyte even under high temperature environments, and suppresses the contraction of the negative electrode active material.
