PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a pipe connection work in a dug trench without the attendance of an operator in the trench and facilitate the connection of the pipe in a spring area. SOLUTION: A trench 70 is dug and a main track 71 is installed on the ground in parallel with the dug trench 70. A pipe connecting device 40 is hung down in the trench 70. Hydraulic cylinders 43 which facilitate the parallel movement of a pressing member 42 are provided in the pipe connecting device 40. Then a pipe connection unit 1 is hung down. 24 power cable protective pipes 6 are provided in the pipe connection unit 1 and travelling rollers 23 are attached. The hydraulic cylinders 42 of the pipe connecting device 40 are operated to press the pipe connection unit 1 and the front ends of the power cable protective pipes 6 are connected to the rear ends of the protective pipes of the already installed pipe connection unit 1.
