PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the processing unit to apply proper saturation correction processing to a received image and to decide a dominant color such as blue in sky, green of wood and marine blue in sea brighter than that of an observed color forcibly. SOLUTION: The processing unit has a color conversion section 2 converts a color space of image data entered by an image entry means 1 into a color space where luminance information and saturation information are processed separately, a saturation correction processing section 3 corrects the saturation in the color space converted by the color conversion section 2, and the saturation correction processing section 3 has a data collection section 31 to extract data required to correct saturation based on the saturation information within a prescribed luminance range set by taking a distribution characteristic of the saturation with respect to each luminance in the color space where the luminance information and the saturation information are processed separately and a correction section 32 using the data extracted by the data collection section to decide a correction coefficientγto conduct saturation correction and to conduct saturation correction processing. When the image has any dominant color, the saturation of the dominant color is much more emphasized by selecting a larger coefficient for the correction coefficientγforcibly.
