PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record an absolute address information so that the absolute address of a recording medium can be accurately identified even in a device for recording with various kinds of track pitches. SOLUTION: When successively forming tracks with minimum track pitch of 14.5μm, two LSB's out of the three LSB's shown in (A) of the track number of 22 bits change in the order of 00→01→10→11→00... every time when one track is formed. When recording data with a track pitch which is larger than 14.5μm, a value which is the same as the two LSB's of the track number at the time of recording with a track pitch of 14.5μm is used for the two LSB's and a track number corresponding to the recording track number is used with the track pitch at the upper 20 bits other than the two LSB's.
