The battery management system measures the current (I), the voltage (U), the temperature (T) and the electrical insulation strength of each battery in the group. A suitably programmed microcontroller (32) computes the balance of charging and discharge currents for each of the batteries over time, and uses this together with the measured data to estimate the state of each battery. This is displayed (36) under control of the microcontroller, which also controls charging, heating or cooling of the battery and replenishing battery water level, activating appropriate devices at the correct times.
