PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce circuit configuration and the number of steps for search operation by subsampling only the images within a search range without impairing the detection accuracy. SOLUTION: An image storage part 11 stores plural frames of image data. Concerning an object image Mh×Mv=4×4 picture elements, the search range is set to ±4 picture elements in both horizontal and vertical directions. In this case, a subsampling part 12 subsamples the images of the search range of 12×12 picture elements into 1/Lh=1/Lv=1/2 horizontally and vertically and generates the subsample image of 6×6 picture elements. The object image is not subsampled. A correlation degree calculating part 13 calculates the degree of correlation between the sample image in the search range provided from the subsampling part 12 and the object image corresponding to the absolute value of difference. The object image is scanned by the image pitch not to be subsampled. A vector detection part 14 outputs the difference between the coordinate position of search range, which has the highest degree of correlation among the correlation degrees calculated by the correlation degree calculating part 13, and the object image as a motion vector. |
