FIELD: optical instrumentation, technology of manufacture of electrooptical light modulators based on liquid crystals. SUBSTANCE: there is proposed liquid crystal modulator of plane-parallel type with parallel orientation of molecule in absence of applied voltage in which electrooptical layer of liquid crystal is confined between two electrode-bearing plates and is oriented by thin layer of amorphous hydrogenated carbon. Process of manufacture of mentioned liquid crystal modulator consists in precipitation of specified layer of amorphous hydrogenated carbon on one of surfaces of modulator as minimum which is in contact with electrooptical layer by chemical precipitation of vapors of hydrocarbons in plasma of glow discharge at angles 5-30 deg with regard to surface. Proposed spatial-time liquid crystal modulator can be used as element of optical circuits of conversion, recording and information processing operating in real time. Usage of orienting layer of amorphous hydrogenated carbon makes it possible to increase speed of response of light modulators on nematics and facilitates development of element base and technology of manufacture of electrooptical devices. EFFECT: increased speed of response of proposed modulator. |
