PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily provide a base excellent in electric resistance, mechanical characteristic and corrosion resistance by regulating the ratio of the thickness of nickel coating layer and the thickness of iron diffusion layer diffused into the nickel coating layer to a desired ratio. SOLUTION: An active material holding body used for electrode current collector having a metal porous structure and has communicating pores having a porosity of 90% or more and 10 or more pores per 1cm, which is formed of Fe/Ni two-layer structure having a porous frame inner part consisting of Fe, the surface part being covered with Ni. Preferably, the Fe frame inner part has a purity of 98wt.% or more, and the Ni coating layer has a Fe content not more than 10wt.% and a thickness of 0.1μm or more and 10μm or less. This active material holding body can be provided by forming the metal porous body consisting of Fe by the use of a porous resin, plating it with Ni followed by thermal treatment, and regulating the ratio of thickness of Ni coating layer to thickness of Fe diffusion layer less than 0.65.
