The implement for aligning steel sheets is useful in matching the center line of the sheet width in a continuous welding process. The implement (1) includes a couple of clamps(10,10'), a number of edge detecting sensors(48a,48b,48a',48b'), a couple of driving motors (20, 20') and a position compensating controller(50). The edge detecting sensors are mounted on the clamps so as to detect the side brims of front and rear steel sheets(p1,p2). The driving motors are provided for traveling the clamps along the lead screws(5,5'). The position compensating controller drives one of the driving motors so as to align the position of the clamp after computing the difference of moving distances(x,y) of the clamps.
