METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GENERATING BINAURAL AUDIO SIGNAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a binaural sound signal with presence feeling nearly equal to an audio equipment in a movie hall and not requiring an expensive reproduction device. SOLUTION: Frequency characteristic changing devices 21 to 28, 31 to 38 change the level and the frequency characteristic of a sound signal, that is, change the frequency characteristic of the sound signal so that a sound is heard with desired sound volume and sound characteristic when the sound is emitted from a sound source at a prescribed position with respect to a listener. Phase delay devices 41 to 47 delay either of changed sound signals by the same length of time as a time difference sensed by the left/the right ears when a sound is emitted from a position corresponding to the phase delay devices. A mixer 51 mixes output signals of the frequency characteristic devices 21 to 23, 26 and the phase delay devices 41 to 44 to generate the left binaural sound signal and a mixer 52 mixes output signals of the frequency characteristic devices 33 to 35 and the phase delay devices 45 to 47 to generate the right binaural sound signal.
