A sleeve for sealing a hole in a wall which a pipe or cable goes through is made of elastic material and at each end(3,9) has reinforcement overlapping the hole, pointing outwards. In the untensioned state of the sleeve, at least one of these reinforcing lips (7) projects only slightly beyond the edge of the hole and inwards. When the cable or pipe is inserted, it forces this lip against the edge of the hole. In this region, the lip's outer cross-section expands towards the end of the sleeve. The angle of taper to the axis for this lip on the inside is larger than that on the outside.
