The control ball (12) is guided radially within the blind bore (11) so as to control the control bores (15), the ball having defined radial clearance. The control bore contains an axial endstop arranged clear of the ball path and designed as a circular section safety ring (9) or step or clamping sleeve. Alternately the endstop may take the form of a rolled shoulder or beading at the bore opening (13). The endstop is in all cases divided from the ball by a damping spring which should be weaker than the compression spring within the bore acting as ball load. The pressure holder forms part of a piston engine fuel injection system or fits into the low-pressure side of a diesel engine injection layout where it lies directly behind the fuel injection pumps.
