Techniques for preparing soils using sand or substitute granular materials are disclosed. In particular, the preparation of underlayers for paths, roads or sports grounds is disclosed. A master mixture is prepared, organic or inorganic granular materials in particular are added thereto, and the mixture is used to form ground layers and layers and underlayers for roads and other surfaces. Said mixture consists of a mixture of granular materials and fibres where the fibres constitute 6-60 wt % of the dry mixture. As said master mixture has an average concentration, it enables the fibres to be easily diluted to the low contents that are generally desired in soils.
