The structure includes the combination of a prime mover (2), a transmission (4) having a number of selectable gear ratios. An adjustable automated torque transmitting system (3) is provided with a number of different conditions of engagement. A mechanism automatically regulates the transmission of torque by the system. The mechanism includes a control unit (13) which generates output signals denoting the magnitude of the torque to be transmitted and being a function of a number of parameters. The control unit adjusts the system in response to the output signals. The transmitting system may include a clutch. One of the number of parameters may be the position of engagement of the torque transmitting system. The positions of engagement may include a starting position or point in which the system basically begins to transmit torque. The control unit may carry out at least one of the operations of detecting, calculating, and storing the starting position at least at one operating point of the vehicle.
