An enzymatically active DNA polymerase or fragment thereof having at least 80 % homology in its amino acid sequence to at least a contiguous 40 amino acid sequence of the DNA polymerase of Thermoanaerobacter thermohydrosulfuricus and mutant enzymes where the exonuclease activity has been removed.
