Process for the production of a catalyst body for the catalytic treatment of gas catalyst body and catalytic converter

Manufacturing a catalyst substrate for the treatment of internal combustion engine waste gases comprises: (i) providing a substrate having plate elements (25,26) forming a matrix (24) of passages (29) for the gas; (ii) coating the plate elements (25,26) with a catalytically active material (32,34); (iii) placing the plates between two walls (22a,22b); and (iv) welding the edges (25a,25b,26a,26b) of each plate element to the adjoining walls. Also claimed are a catalyst substrate obtained by the above process and a catalytic converter employing two catalyst substrates as above.
