<p>A steel alloy comprises by weight: 0.25-0.75% carbon, 0.2-1.5% silicon, 0.1-2% manganese, 0-1% each of nickel, chromium, molybdenum and copper, 0-0.2% vanadium, 0.02-0.35% sulphur, 0.04-0.2% phosphorous, 0-0.005% and, 0.005-0.02% nitrogen. The residue is iron plus possible impurities, with possibly<0.1% of at least one of lead, tellurium and selenium. The steel may have been treated with calcium. Also claimed is the use of such steel to make a mechanical component comprising at least two parts obtained by snapping a blank, and a component so made.</p> |
