<p>The tool is used especially for joining two sheet metal panels together by crimping the edge of one over the other in two stages. The tool consists of a matrix which supports the outer and inner panels and has elements to position them relative to one another. A mobile cantilever member (5) rotates about a main fixed axle (6) lying basically in the plane of the two metal sheets. The tool also has at least one angled tilting member (7), and an electrically-controlled drive. The tilting member pivots in the middle about an axle (8) fixed to the cantilever member and lying parallel to its main axle (6). One of its arms is equipped with pre-crimping and crimping elements to bend the edge of the outer sheet through 45 and 90 degrees respectively. The drive is designed to rotate the cantilever member about its main axle and the tilting member about its axle (8). It consists of drive (14) and guide (15) cams which interact with a roller (18) on the second arm (19) of the tilting member.</p> |
