PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrocarbon oxidizing catalyst capable of selectively removing hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide from a combustion exhaust gas from an engine such as nitrogen oxides, excess oxygen, hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide by mixing a Co catalyst and/or a W-based catalyst and a Pt-based catalyst. SOLUTION: This hydrocarbon oxidizing catalyst capable of selectively removing hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide from a combustion exhaust gas at temperature of 300 deg.C or higher consists of a mixture of Co catalyst and/or a W-based catalyst and a Pt-based catalyst. The Pt-based catalyst is composed of 1-20wt.% of Co oxide borne by a porous inorganic oxide. The W-based catalyst is composed of 0.2-10wt.% of a chemical compound of at least, one kind of element selected from among W, V, Mo, Mn, Nb and Ta borne by the porous inorganic oxide. The Pt catalyst is composed of 0.05-5wt.% of one type of element selected from among Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh, Ir and Au borne by the porous inorganic oxide. |
