PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new antiferrodielectric liquid crystal compound exhibiting an antiferrodielectric property even at low temperatures, and capable of improving the orientation contracts of liquid crystals. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [rings A-C are (halogenated) phenyl;(m), (n) and (p) are each 0,1; (n)+(p)=1,2; X is O, COO, CO, OCO; R<1> is a 4-18C alkyl; R<2> is a 2-10C alkyl; Cf is CF3 , CH3 , C2 H5 ; * is an optically active site]. For example, 4-(2-octyloxycarbonyl)phenyl-4-[N-(n- undecylpiperazino)]benzoic acid ester. The compound of formula I is obtained e.g. by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III in the presence of a base such as triethylamine in an inactive organic solvent. |
