PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect the abnormal output of an intake air pressure sensor in a device to detect an abnormality of the intake air pressure sensor in an internal combustion engine provided with a sensor to detect the air intake volume together with the intake air pressure sensor. SOLUTION: The intake air volume G, the engine speed NE, and the intake air pressure signal Vpim are read (Step 100) from an air flow meter, a crank angle sensor, and the intake air pressure sensor. The unit intake air volume G/N is calculated (Step 102) by dividing G by NE. The upper and lower limit values Vpimmax and Vpimmin of the Vpim to G/N are calculated (Step 104) referring to the map. When Vpim is detected outside the range of Vpimmin<=Vpim<=Vpimmax continuously for the prescribed period of time, a judgment is made that the detected value Vpim of the intake air pressure sensor is abnormal (Steps 106-112).
