PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a molded rubber item excellent in properties such as abrasion resistance and dimensional stability by mixing a rubber with a pulp-like substance comprising a thermotropic liq.-crystalline polyester. SOLUTION: This molded rubber item is produced by mixing a rubber with a pulp-like substance which has a diameter of 10μm or lower and is obtd. by removing the sea component from sea-island fibers comprising a thermotropic liq.-crystalline polyester as the island component and another polymer as the sea component before or after the fibers are cut. Pref. the liq.-crystalline polyester has an m.p. of 260-380 deg.C and a total content of structural units derived from p-hydroxybenzoic acid and 2-hydroxy-6-naphthoic acid of 80mol% or higher, esp. pref. the molar ratio of units derived from the former acid to units derived from the latter acid being (5:95)-(45:55). Thus obtd. molded item is excellent in abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, strengths, adhesion between the matrix and the pulp-like substance, etc., exhibiting high reinforcing effects of the substance.
