摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain granular aggregates of aluminum borate whiskers each having a high aspect ratio in a high yield at a low cost by uniformly mixing Al2 O3 with B2 O3 and NiO in a powdery state, forming the resultant mixture into particles and heating the particles. SOLUTION: A mixture is prepd. by uniformly mixing Al2 O3 or an A1 compd. forming Al2 O3 when heated in air with B2 O3 or a B compd. forming B2 O3 when heated in air and NiO, Ni or a compd. forming NiO when heated in air in a powdery state. The mixture is formed into particles whose particle diameter is preferably >=30μm, the particles are heated at about 1,100-1,400 deg.C to form aluminum borate whiskers and these whiskers are washed with hot water. The resultant granular aggregates of aluminum borate whiskers are easy to handle and suitable for use as a reinforcing material for a metallic or plastic product, etc.
