PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound retaining stable color developability and color fading tendency, adaptable to a wide range of service conditions and environmental conditions, and useful as a color developer for reversible heat-sensitive recording materials. SOLUTION: This new compound is 3-hydroxy-4-(N'-n-octadecylureido)butyric acid of the formula, which is synthesized, for example, by making (B) n- octadecyl isocyanate act on (A) 4-amino-3-hydroxybutyric acid. It is preferable that the reaction be carried out by using an ester or an alkali salt of the component A, and after the reaction, conducting an esterolysis or neutralization. |
