PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish an industrial technique efficiently decomposing and removing a volatile org. compd. such as trihalomethane by using a photocatalyst. SOLUTION: At first, gas to be treated is guided to the inlet 23 of the outer pipe 20 of an optical reaction unit 17 and passes through the gas passage having a doughnut-shaped cross section formed between the inner pipe 18 and outer pipe 20 of the optical reaction unit 17 while receives the irradiation with ultraviolet rays from an ultraviolet lamp 18 to flow toward an outlet. At this time, the gas to be treated threads through the interstices of a glass fiber fabric covered with titanium oxide constituting a titanium oxide photocatalyst to flow toward the outlet while it is irradiated with ultraviolet rays from the ultraviolet lamp constituting the inner pipe 18. By this constitution, a harmful volatile org. compd. in the gas to be treated is efficiently optically decomposed. |
