PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant restraint system capable of restraining an occupant in the expansion completed shape of an air bag adjusted with the protruded distance in response to the degree of a collision and the seated position of the occupant. SOLUTION: This occupant restraint system is provided with an air bag 11, an inflator 18, a collision sensor 22 detecting a collision of a vehicle, a distance sensor 24 detecting the distance LO between an occupant M and the folded air bag 11, and a controller 26. The air bag 11 is partially sewn with a rupturable thread so that the protruded distance at the time of expansion completion can be changed. The gas discharge output of the inflator 18 can be changed. The controller 26 receives signals from the collision sensor 22 and the distance sensor 24 and outputs the signal for discharging gas at the prescribed gas discharge output to the inflator 18 so that the protruded distance of the air bag 11 at the time of expansion completion can be adjusted based on the degree of the collision and the distance LO between the occupant M and the air bag 11. |
