PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject safe composition, capable of retaining activities of an antithrombin III (AT-III) and inactivating a virus and freed of a pyrogen by bringing a composition containing an antithrombin III (AT-III) into contact with a specific insoluble carrier contaminated with the virus, then heating the resultant mixture in the liquid state and subsequently eluting the AT-III. SOLUTION: This composition containing an AT-III is obtained by bringing a composition, containing the AT-III and having the possibility of viral contamination into contact with an insoluble carrier containing a ligand, having affinity for the AT-III (e.g. an immobilized heparin having 0.1-100mg content of bonded heparin as a ligand based on 1ml hydrophilic vinyl polymeric insoluble carrier) and bonded thereto, adsorbing the AT-III thereon, then heat-treating the insoluble carrier on which the AT-III is adsorbed in a liquid state until the virus is substantially inactivated, subsequently eluting the AT-III from the insoluble carrier and recovering the eluted AT-III. The heat treatment in the liquid state is preferably carried out at usually 30-100 deg.C, preferably 55-85 deg.C for usually 1-100hr, preferably 5-30hr. |
