PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in a high yield, useful as a raw material of a medicine, an agrochemical and a functional polymer by reacting an alkane with hydrogen chloride by using a specific compound in the presence of a halogenated metal catalyst. SOLUTION: This halogenated organic compound is obtained by reacting (B) an alkane such as a compound of formula I [R1 to R3 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an aryl(oxy), nitro or an alkoxy; (n) is 1-8] with (C) hydrogen chloride in the presence of (A) a catalyst of a halogenated metal such as aluminum trichloride, zinc dichloride, ferric chloride, and tin tetrachloride and (D) 0.01-50wt.% saturated hydrocarbon compound [e.g. (cyclo)pentane], aromatic hydrocarbon compound (e.g. 1,3,4,5-tetramethylbenzene, mesitylene), aprotic compound not containing halogen (e.g. nitrobenzene, 1,3-dinitrobenzene) or their mixture. |
