PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain side dams having sufficient wear resistance and sliding characteristic by manufacturing the side dams consisting of Al2 O3 , C, BN, B4 C, SiO2 , SiC specified in the max. grain sizes and compounding ratios. SOLUTION: A twin roll type strip casting device 10 is composed of a pair of rolls 12 arranged in parallel and the side dams 11 fixed to the end face sides of these rolls 12 so s to slide with the rolls 12. The side dams 11 are composed of 35 to 65wt.% Al2 O3 having <50μm max. grain size and 35 to 65wt.% C having <250μm max. grain size and the balance, by weight%, <=30% BN, <=5% B4 C, <=5% SiO2 , <=5% SiC, which are required to be incorporated in the side dams at least at 1%. The respective max. grain sizes of the BN, B4 C, SiO2 are preferably <50μm and the max. grain size of the SiC is preferably <100μm. As a result, the side dams having the sufficient spalling resistance and corrosion resistance and having the excellent wear resistance and sliding characteristic are obtd. |
