PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vulcanizable rubber composition excellent in balance between a coefficient of friction and wear resistance, especially suitable as a pinch roller for a magnetic tape apparatus, etc. SOLUTION: This vulcanizable rubber composition is obtained by blending (a) 100 pts.wt. of a nitrile group-containing highly saturated copolymer rubber prepared by hydrogenating a conjugate diene part of an unsaturated nitrile- conjugated diene-based rubber copolymer with (b) 10-60 pts.wt. of a zinc compound, (c) 20-60 pts.wt. of anα,β-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid, (d) 0.1-30 pts.wt. of an organic peroxide-based vulcanizing agent, (e) 3-50 pts.wt. of a low-structure carbon black, (f) 5-40 pts.wt. of a plasticizer, (g) 0.1-30 pts.wt. of an organic peroxide-based vulcanizing agent and (h) an ethylene-α-olefin-based copolymer rubber. The weight ratio of the total of (a) the nitrile group- containing highly saturated copolymer rubber, (b) the zinc compound and (c) theα,β-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid to (g) the ethylene-α-olefin-based copolymer rubber is 80/20 to 30/70.
