PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain lithium nickelate practical as an anodic agent for lithium ion cells by a single baking process. SOLUTION: A mixture of nickel oxide powder and a lithium compound (lithium hydroxide or lithium nitrate) powder at the virtual molar ratio Ni/Li of (1:1) is kept in the temperature range from the melting point of the lithium compound to 500 deg.C for 30min or longer to effect infiltrating the nickel oxide powder with the molten lithium compound, and the mixture is finally baked at >=650 deg.C in the presence of oxygen or oxygen-rich gas. When lithium hydroxide is to be used as the lithium compound, nickel hydroxide powder is first mixed with the lithium hydroxide powder, and the mixture is preliminarily baked at 250-350 deg.C in the presence of an oxygen-contg. gas to convert the nickel hydroxide into nickel oxide followed by conducting the above-mentioned two- stage heat treatment. |
