PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound in high efficiency by reaction between an aniline compound and a glycol at relatively low temperatures in liquid phase in the presence of an inexpensive metal-contg. catalyst. SOLUTION: This compound, indole (derivative), is obtained by reaction between (A) an aniline compound (pref. aniline) and (B) a 1,2-glycol compound (pref. ethylene glycol) in the presence of (C) a Re-contg. compound e.g. a compound of the formula ReOCl3 (PPh3 )2 (Ph is phenyl) or the formula ReOCl3 [P (n-Bu)3 ]2 (n-Bu is n-butyl), etc.} in liquid phase. The molar ratios A/B and C/B are 0.1-50 (pref. 1-20) and 0.000001-0.20 (pref. 0.00001-0.10), respectively. |
