The lift has a lifting carriage (1) displaced linearly by guide runners (2) under the action of a cam (3). The cam is rotated about a fixed spindle (4) by a lever (5). The cam track (9) displaces a roller (6), fixed to the lifting carriage, on which are mounted fasteners and which is fixed to a chassis (7). The cam is constituted by a disc whose spindle is near the cam track. The cam track angle (12) is small at the start of movement to increase the force reduction ratio. Cam movement can be assisted by de-clutchable gearing operated by a crank. The carriage can be locked in the top position by a notch in the cam track into which the roller is housed.
