A circuit for vertically converting an image signal of a television receiver which converts a filtering coefficient to thereby convert a television signal is disclosed. In the circuit, a 3/4 attenuating filter(11) generates a low luminance signal(YL) of 432 lines based on an input luminance signal X(f) of 576 lines. A 1/4 attenuating filter(12) generates a high luminance signal(YH) of 144 lines based on the input luminance signal X(f) of 576 lines. A low pass filter(14) receives an output signal of 3/4 attenuating filter(11) and converts a filter coefficient to thereby obtain a gain of 4 times. A high pass filter(15) receives an output signal of 1/4 attenuating filter(12) and converts the filter coefficient to thereby obtain a gain of -4 times. An adder(16) adds the output signal of the high pass filter(15) to the output signal of the low pass filter(14) to output a luminance signal of one field.
